Huch’uy Qosqo is located over 3,550 meters above sea level on a small plateau on the upper third of the mountain. From there you have a beautiful view of the Sacred Valley where one can view the snow-capped peak of Pitusiray and the town of Calca below.
According to chroniclers Inca Viracocha founded Huch’uy Qosqo in a place that had already been populated. When the first Inca, Manco Capac came to the Sacred Valley, he found the area occupied by various tribes who were later defeated and annexed to the Empire. One of these nations was settled on Huch’uy Qosqo. There are a number of structures and Incan buildings that make up the Huch’uy Qosqo architectural complex.
